Weldy booster EX2 extrusion welder
The compact one of the two Weldy extruders. 3000 W, 2.5 kg an hour, 3 or 4 mm rod, 6.4 kg, and a welding shoe that rotates through 360 degrees. Weldy rates it highest for tank, pool and sewage work; for geomembrane the EX3 is the stronger choice.

Weldy build two hand extruders on the same platform and give them different barrels. The booster EX2 is the short one. That makes it lighter, easier to hold in awkward positions, and better suited to fabrication work where the joint changes direction every few hundred millimetres: tank walls, pool linings, duct corners, sewage chambers.
Weldy publish an application matrix for the pair, and it is worth reading before choosing, because it tells you honestly which machine they intend for which job. The EX2 scores three stars on tanks, water tanks, sewage, aquaculture, maritime and pools. On geomembrane it scores one. That is not a fault; it is a design choice. The extruder built for geomembrane is the EX3.
What the kit includes
The EU plug kit, article 146.738, ships in a transport case with the instruction manual, a T-handle Allen key, a carbon brush for the drive motor, the K8/10 welding shoe kit, a heating element and a brass brush. Two of those items deserve attention. The spare heating element and spare carbon brush are the two parts most likely to stop an extruder, and they are already in the box. Most machines in this class ship without either.
Features that matter on site
- 360 degree rotating shoe. The shoe follows the joint while the body stays where your hands are comfortable.
- Rotating handle and side handle. Two grip positions for two-handed control, which matters at 3000 W.
- Double sided wire feed. Rod enters from either side, so the machine works left or right handed and the rod coil sits where it is convenient.
- Motor protection with optical display. The machine tells you before it overloads rather than after.
Specification
Figures from the Weldy catalogue. Article 146.738 is the EU plug kit with transport case and shoe; 145.934 is the CN set.

| Voltage | 230 V |
| Maximum power | 3,000 W |
| Welding wire | 3 mm or 4 mm |
| Materials | HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE, PP |
| Maximum output | 2.5 kg/hour |
| Dimensions, L × W × H | 500 × 140 × 380 mm |
| Weight | 6.4 kg |
| Protection class | II, double insulated |
| Welding shoe | 360° rotating; K8/10 kit supplied |

| Motor protection | With optical display |
| Kit contents | Manual, transport case, T-handle Allen key, drive motor carbon brush, K8/10 welding shoe kit, heating element, brass brush |
| Conformity | CE |
The kit ships with a spare heating element and a spare carbon brush in the case. That is unusual and worth noting: the two parts most likely to stop an extruder are already in the box. The K8/10 shoe is a fillet shoe for 8 to 10 mm beads.

Weldy's own application ratings
From the Weldy catalogue. Three plus signs is the machine's core use; one is possible but not recommended; a dash means not suited.

The last row decides it for lining contractors. For geomembrane work, the EX3 is the machine Weldy built for the job.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between the booster EX2 and EX3?
Barrel length, output and weight, and consequently the work each suits. The EX2 has a 500 mm body, delivers 2.5 kg an hour and weighs 6.4 kg. The EX3 has a 630 mm body, delivers 3.4 kg an hour and weighs 6.9 kg. Weldy's own application matrix rates the EX2 higher for tank construction, pools, sewage systems and plastic repairs, and the EX3 higher for geomembrane and large scale pipe. The shorter EX2 is easier to work in confined positions; the longer EX3 is easier to use standing up on a liner.
Which welding rod does the EX2 take?
Three or four millimetre round rod in HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE or PP. Weldy list their own 4 mm HDPE rod in black and 4 mm PP rod in grey-beige, in 5 kg coils, and we stock 4 mm rod in the same resins. The rod must match the parent material: PP rod on polyethylene produces a bead that looks sound and peels straight off.
What does the 360 degree rotating shoe do?
It lets you keep the machine body in a comfortable position while the shoe follows the joint. On a vertical tank wall, around a pipe, or into a corner, you rotate the shoe rather than contorting the whole extruder. Combined with the rotating handle and the side handle, it is why the EX2 rates highly for fabrication work where joints run in every direction.
Is the EX2 suitable for geomembrane work?
It will do it, and Weldy rate it as suitable rather than ideal. For patch work and occasional detail on liner it is fine. For a crew whose main work is geomembrane, the EX3's longer barrel and higher output are worth having, and Weldy rate it three stars for geomembrane against one for the EX2. If geomembrane is the job, buy the EX3.
What welding shoes are available?
Weldy list thirteen shoes for the booster range: basic and blank shoes, the UBL30/1.5 kit, fillet shoes K8/10 and K15, V-weld shoes V8/10-X15/20, V12-X25 and V15-X30, overlap shoes UBL25, UBL30 and UBL35, an outer corner shoe CO15, and corner shoes CL14 and CS20. The EX2 kit ships with the K8/10 fillet kit. Others are ordered to suit the joint.
